Federica Fedorczyk is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at EURA, where she works on AI regulation and the ethical-legal assessment of advanced technologies in light of the EU AI Act. She is also a Postdoctoral Emile Noël Fellow at NYU (New York City), where she works on her research project “Democratizing AI: a critical examination of the EU AI Act in the context of AI top-down misuse”.
She graduated in Law with honors at the University of Roma Tre and obtained a Ph.D. in Criminal law at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. In her dissertation “Artificially Intelligent Criminal Justice? A policy oriented critical plea” she investigated how the use of AI is transforming the criminal justice system and the risks of new forms of digital authoritarianism.
She has been Visiting Ph.D. Researcher at Fordham Law School in New York City (2023) and Doctoral Research Visiting Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in Freiburg (2024), where she was awarded a Scholarship for her research project. During her studies, Federica authored several academic articles published both in national and international journals. Her main research interests include the intersection between AI and democracy, the innovative concept of smart prisons and digital rehabilitation, as well as gender-based crimes and gender discrimination.
In addition to her academic activities, Federica is a lawyer and has also served as a legal trainee at the Avvocatura Generale dello Stato and as a judicial clerk at the Criminal Public Prosecutor Office, where she was part of the anti-violence pool specialized in crimes against women, children, and other vulnerable victims.
Ludovica Sposini is a Ph.D. Candidate in Law at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, specializing in the regulation of digital platforms and advanced technologies. She spent three months as visiting researcher at the “ELSI” of the University of Osnabrück under the supervision of Prof. Dr. C. Busch as well as at the University Carlos III of Madrid working with Prof. Dr. Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell. Moreover, she also did an internship as Jr. Legal Counsel at “Traent”, a company developing hybrid blockchain technologies. She also is “Cultore della materia” in Private Law at the University of Pisa.
Currently, she is a member of the Centre of Excellence “EURA” led by Prof. Bertolini working on the regulation of AI, Robotics and Advanced Technologies as well as a Research Fellow of the “ISLC” of the University of Milan. Furthermore, Ludovica is a Member Consultive Committee of the “ELI” working on several report and projects. She graduated summa cum laude in Law at the University of Pisa in May 2021, discussing a thesis in European private law. She carried out the advance legal practice at the State District Attorney’s Office in Florence, gaining professional experience into both civil and criminal matters.
After graduation, she attended some specialized courses such as the one entitled “International Business and Digital Law” provided by the Bocconi University and another one named “Cyberlaw” at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Maria Cristina Gaeta holds a JD (summa cum laude) from Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples, and a Ph.D. in Private Law (summa cum laude) from the Federico II University of Naples. Currently she is a Fellow at the Research Centre of European Private Law (ReCEPL) and at the Integrated laboratory of innovative technologies for social sciences “Scienza Nuova” (Living Lab Utopia), Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples, as well as member of the Academy of European Private Lawyers. Maria Cristina has been a Visiting Researcher at Queen Mary University of London, at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies of London (2017), and at the University of Àvila, Spain (2013-2014). Her research interests range from Robotics and Artificial Intelligence to Internet of Things and Product Liability. She is author of several publications and member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Privacy Law and Technologies and Familia Journal. She is a practicing attorney in Naples.
Nicoleta Angela Cherciu, holds an LL.M. in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from the University of Bucharest (2016) and is a qualified practicing lawyer in Romania as of 2015. She has expertise in private practice, as she previously worked as a litigator in one of Romania’s biggest law firms where she advised and represented clients on IP, insolvency, and commercial matters. Afterwards she joined as legal counsel a software company in the field of Robotic Process Automation where she negotiated and drafted software and technology-related agreement within the company’s US legal team. As of 2020, Nicoleta is a Research Felllow in Private Law at Scuola Superiore Sant’ Anna and a EURA Junior Fellow. Her research focuses on the liability of online platforms and personal data protection.
